Overall, the chance to be a part of something bigger than myself was an experience that I would cherish and remember forever. I will reflect on my days at the OHRA when I need to remember what it means to help others and do something for the community.
In-Person Volunteer Opportunities
The Resource Center
We are looking for someone to process and file mail and packages received for our guests one day each week.
Shelter
We are seeking volunteers to assist once a week in our congregate dining/game/TV room to chat and listen with guests:
-Tuesday mornings: Coffee hour from 8:00 am -9:30 am
-Thursday evenings: Dinner/games/movies 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
-Friday evenings: Dinner/games/movies 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Shower Trailer
Volunteers needed to:
-Manage the trailer Tuesday afternoons from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm
-Help once or twice a month(on Tuesdays and Thursdays) to oversee the washer/dryers(guests move their laundry from one machine to the next).
-Help once or twice a month picking up and delivering coffee on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10:00 am.
Remote Volunteer Opportunities
Housing Reporter
Tracking progress on transitional housing and providing a monthly report.
News Media Auditor
Monitoring local news, TV websites and newspapers; providing a monthly report on coverage related to housing and homelessness.
Resource Guide Admin
For years, OHRA has published a list of local resources (places to do laundry, find clothing, access free meals, etc.) which is made available to our guests. That list needs updating, and then it needs to be maintained as changes become known. A volunteer needs to be able to initially make phone calls, assess the proper information, and then type it up into a one-page document. This document might need updating once a month, and the document could then be emailed to OHRA.
